Visit Aveiro is to know the city that enchants with its labyrinthine canals and where the water reflects the beauty of its art nouveau buildings. Here, it is as if its moliceiros were the gondolas of a Portuguese Venice. Aveiro is, however, much more than canals and bridges, it is an enchanted city with much to be discovered. Go on an adventure with Guerin.
Itinerary to visit Aveiro: 1 day
A one day getaway to Aveiro? The best way to start is with a trip on the moliceiro, a typical Aveiro boat, which takes you to enjoy the architecture of Aveiro through the city's canals.
The next stop is the Museu Cidade de Aveiro. Here, discover a little bit of the endless stories that the famous Portuguese Venice has to tell. In addition, you can also get to know the works of several renowned artists from the region and beyond.
We also invite you to visit the Art Nouveau Museum, located in one of the most symbolic buildings among the heritage of this artistic trend. After reflecting on what this movement provided, make a quick stop at the Tea House on the first floor. Go during the day, and with the coming of night, repeat the visit. The experience will be totally different. With live music, it becomes one of the liveliest bars in town.
If you stay only one day, don't leave without tasting the typical sweets of Aveiro and take a few for your family. The confectioneries that make ovos moles are spread all over the city, there are no excuses.
Aveiro Tour Itinerary: 2 days
If there is more time to explore Aveiro, we leave the Old Town behind, visited on the first day, and set off to discover new charms. After recharging our batteries for a great second day, we start at the Museu de Aveiro. This museum was once a Convent of Jesus of the Dominican Feminine Order. It was here that Princess D. Joana, known for the miracle of Saint Joana Princesa, lived. When visiting the museum you will have access to two distinct but complementary circuits: the monumental route and the permanent exhibition. You can also visit the Aveiro Cathedral right next to the museum.
If you are hungry, we suggest ovos moles again, but this time as a filling for the much acclaimed Aveiro tripe. If chocolate is your true passion, it can also be chosen as a filling. You won't regret it.
The next stop is currently one of the most relevant Cultural Centers in the country. The Centro Cultural e de congressos de Aveiro used to be a ceramics factory.
They say the best is always left for last, we don't know if this is the case, see for yourself. The penultimate stop is the Ecomuseu Marinha da Troncalha, an ecological museum where you can experience up close the artisanal production of salt and explore the surrounding landscape.
End your two-day trip around Aveiro in one of the most popular and irreverent bars in Aveiro, the Mercado Negro.
Aveiro Tour itinerary: 3 days
If you can find the time to spend 3 days in Aveiro, we suggest that this one be totally dedicated to rest, to get you back into your routine. It's time to put on your slippers and a bathing suit, it's beach day. Start by getting to know Costa Nova and its colorful striped houses, and then enjoy the beach.
