8 tips to traveling with baby

In any trip, the most important thing is always the safety of all passengers, especially if you’re travelling with kids. Before starting your trip, you must always ensure all the conditions that allow your baby to travel with maximum safety.

1. Safety comes first

The first step is to ensure that you use a baby car seat that is suitable for your kid's age. Besides that, it is fundamental for you to know how to correctly install the baby car seat, as this is one of the main mistakes parents make when traveling with their babies. After having correctly installed the baby car seat, make sure the seat belt is securely fastened. It shouldn’t be too tight or too loose.

2. Make some stops on your way

Sometimes traveling by car can be tiring for younger children. Always remember to stop on your way, so that the trip doesn’t get too exhausting for your baby. We advise you to take a break every 2 hours of your trip, and in the case of newborn babies, it is recommended to stop every 30 minutes. You should take a break for around 15 to 30 minutes, allowing your children to have some fun and you should also take a chance to feed them. But remember to always give them light food, otherwise, they can feel nauseas during the rest of the trip.

Besides, in case your baby starts crying during the trip or if you notice he’s too troubled, it is also important that you stop and try to calm him down. While you’re driving, try to calm the child without taking your eyes off the road, and as soon as possible, stop safely, get out the vehicle and calm down the baby.

3. When is the best time of the day to travel with your baby?

When traveling with babies, it is important to plan every single detail and the schedules are no exception. The schedules must be thought out in detail, as they are extremely important for a calmer trip. If possible, avoid the rush hours to escape traffic jams. During summer, you should also avoid the hottest hours. Always choose to travel at strategic times of the day. A great option is to leave at nap time, this way the kids can take some time to rest, and everyone can enjoy a quieter trip.

4. Ensure your baby is comfortable during the trip

To make the road trip more pleasant, for both parents and babies, you should always try to maintain maximum comfort for the little ones. Guerin gives you some suggestions that might be useful.

5. Use windows sunshades

In summer, on the sunniest days you should use windows sunshades on the rear windows of the vehicle. These sunshades not only protect your baby from the sun, but they also create a more pleasant environment for them to take a nap.

6. Keep the temperature stable

When traveling with babies, try to maintain a warm temperature inside the vehicle and ensure it remains relatively stable. Whether it’s summer or winter, always be careful when using the air conditioning, and on colder days take a blanket with you to make your child feel cozier.

7. The baby should wear comfortable clothes

You should always be careful with the clothes your baby is wearing. Make sure you dress your child in practical and comfortable clothes, especially if you’re going on a longer trip. We all know that unexpected events might happen during trips with children, so you should always take some extra clothes with you. Better to prevent it.

8. Take some snacks with you

Before leaving home, always prepare some snacks and drinks to take with you. You can take some cookies or fruit, and never forget the water. Put the food in an easy to access place in the car and when children get hungry, give them something to eat.

9. Entertainment during the trip

Babies can quickly get bored during a car ride. To avoid traveling from becoming a nightmare, for both parents and child, plan some entertainment activities for the kids. One of the easiest ways to entertain kids in the car is using music. Turn on the radio and play a kid's song to keep your baby calm. You can also take some of your children’s favorite toys to distract him. Look for baby toys that you can attach to the car seats.
