If you have never visited Madeira and you’re thinking about taking some vacation on this island, then this article is for you. Monte Palace Madeira: A truly exotic experience 



With an area of 70.000 m2, in Monte Palace Madeira Garden you can find different types of exotic plants from all over the world. In this garden, you can also see many animal species, such as swans and ducks that inhabit the central lagoon and peacocks and chickens all over the place. Keep an eye out for the sidewalk’s tile panels, as you walk along the garden.  

Apart from the beautiful garden, you should also take a chance to visit the Monte Palace Madeira Museum, which has 3 exhibition galleries. Two of them are dedicated to the "Paixão Africana” exhibition, a collection of contemporary sculptures from Zimbabwe and the third one presents a large collection of minerals, in an exhibition called "Segredos da Mãe Natureza”.  

 

Pico do Areeiro: A place above the clouds 

Located at 1818 meters of altitude, Pico do Areeiro is the third highest place on Madeira Island. In this place, which is one of the most visited places on the island, you can enjoy a stunning view over the Madeira’s mountain range. 

You will also be able to see Ponta de São Lourenço, Curral das Freiras, and on sunnier days, the island of Porto Santo. We advise you to climb Pico do Areeiro really early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise view. We promise you won’t regret it.  

For the more adventurous ones, there are lots of activities to do in this place, such as mountain biking, tours in the nature, trail running or hiking.  


 

Find out several botanical species in the Botanical Garden of Madeira 


Located in Quinta do Bom Sucesso, the Botanical Garden is one of the top places to visit in Madeira. Created in 1960, and covering around 8 hectares, this place has thousands of species of exotic plants, an area especially dedicated to orchids and several viewpoints with unique landscapes over Funchal.  

Here you will have the chance to see some plant species that are actually endangered in their places of origin. Apart from the garden, we can also visit the Natural History Museum and the Herbarium, also located in Quinta do Bom Sucesso.

CR7 Museum is a place dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo career, the Portuguese football star, born in Madeira. If you are a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo or a football lover, then this should be one of your top places to visit in Madeira.  

In this place, which pays homage to Cristiano Ronaldo, you can learn a little more about the player’s career and see some of the trophies he won, whether it is individually or collectively. 

 

Try the best Madeira wines at Blandy’s Wine Lodge 


With more than 211 years of history, at Blandy’s Wine Lodge you can find the best Madeira wines. Here are stored more than 650 barrels, in which the company’s wines are aged using the traditional method of canteiro.  

Apart from the cellars you can also visit the vineyards, the Blandy’s family museum, and the best part is that you can do some wine tasting.  

 

Everything about the production of the bananas from Madeira at BAM 

It is impossible to think about Madeira, without thinking of its delicious bananas. For that reason, the next stop on our itinerary of places to visit in Madeira is at BAM (Centro de Banana da Madeira).  

Located 15 km from Funchal, this is an absolutely unique place. At the BAM interpretation center you can learn everything about the bananas production process. BAM also has several exhibitions that allow you to learn more about the history of the famous bananas from Madeira.  


Mercado dos Lavradores: A place full of colors and flavors 


In addition to bananas, Madeira has many other regional products to try. With a subtropical climate, this island has many other exotic products to discover.  

In the center of Funchal you can find Mercado dos Lavradores, a place full of colors and flavors. Opened in 1940, this place is a market that stands out for offering many tropical products, traditional from Madeira, with a special highlight on fruits. Here you have the chance to buy and try some of the most exotic fruits that grow on this island.  


 

Have fun with the whole family at 3D Fun Art Museum 


If you visit Madeira with kids, the 3D Fun Art Museum is the right place to have some fun. A space to visit with the family, have a good laugh and take some funny photos to remember.  

In this optical illusion museum, you can find several 3D images to interact, an upside-down room and an Ames room, which provides a true illusion.
